For individuals who desire larger or fuller lips, permanent lip enlargement may be a good option. This procedure provides more voluminous lips without the need for repetitive treatments, which is necessary when temporary, FDA-approved injectable fillers, such as Restylane® (hyaluronic acid), are used. Permanent lip enlargement is a highly effective procedure.
Get fuller lips without the need for repetitive treatments
This procedure involves taking a piece of tissue from somewhere on the body, as determined by Dr. Henry, and then grafting it into one or both lips for greater fullness. First, a short incision is made in the corner of the lip. A tunnel is then shaped under the fleshy part of the lip and the graft is pulled through and anchored at each end. In the final step, Dr. Henry will close the incisions with sutures. During the consultation, patients can learn which source of tissue is the best to use, as well as their alternatives with dermal injections.
Permanent lip enlargement is performed at Dr. Henry’s San Francisco Bay Area centers on an outpatient basis. It can be done with local anesthesia, but the use of sedation plus local or general anesthesia will make the operation much more comfortable and easier for the patient to tolerate. Lips will be noticeably swollen for at least one to two weeks, and lip sensation usually returns to normal following the initial healing period. The sutures will be removed in about one week.
Additional plastic surgery procedures at our San Francisco Bay area centers that may enhance permanent lip enlargement results are facelift, rhinoplasty, cheek implants, eyelid lift, and forehead lift.
