Eyelid Lift

Individuals with excessively sagging upper or lower eyelid skin, or who have lost their natural upper eyelid crease, can benefit from blepharoplasty, or an eyelid lift. This cosmetic surgery procedure offers dramatic results, providing a patient with a more youthful, relaxed, and energetic eye appearance.

Also known as blepharoplasty, it can create a more youthful appearance

In the upper eyelids, the incisions will be made where the natural crease should be, and on the lower lids, the incisions will made just below the lash line. Typically, blepharoplasty entails the removal of excess fat and skin. Should only excess fat be present in the lower lids, a special cosmetic surgery procedure may be performed, known as “transconjunctival blepharoplasty.” This particular procedure involves inside the lower lids. Transconjunctival blepharoplasty does not produce an external incision or scar.

Eyelid lift surgery is an outpatient procedure, using either sedation and local or general anesthesia. Bruising and sensitivity to light should last about one to two weeks, and within four to six days, all sutures should be removed. Shortly thereafter, eye makeup can be applied again. If you have initial discomfort, you may be able to take prescribed oral medication. Swelling progressively dissipates over several weeks. Contact lenses should only be worn when comfortable, which is usually within seven to 10 days.

Additional plastic surgery procedures at our San Francisco Bay area centers that may enhance eyelid lift results are forehead lift, facelift, chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing.
