Body Procedures :

Liposuction

Chin EnlargementLiposuction at Dr. Henry's San Francisco Bay Area centers is a very effective plastic surgery procedure for improving the body's contour and proportion. Liposuction gives the patient a more flattering figure by reducing excess subcutaneous fat, which is resistant to diet and exercise. Commonly targeted areas for liposuction treatment at our San Francisco Bay Area centers are the neck (under the chin), upper arms and armpits, male chest/breasts, trunk, abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, inner knees, calves, and ankles.

Most patients are of average weight and desire permanent contour changes, although Dr. Henry's advanced techniques used in liposuction now allow her to safely remove larger amounts of fat and can be useful in treating heavier persons as well. First, small suction tubes (called cannulas) are inserted through very short incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near the fat deposits. Next, excess fat is essentially vacuumed out, leaving the treated area looking much more toned.

For patient safety and comfort, general anesthesia is usually used during liposuction at Dr. Henry's San Francisco Bay Area offices, and is performed on an outpatient basis. The patient goes home with a compression garment (or tape) covering the treated areas. Compression is advised for about a month after liposuction treatment, as it helps reduce swelling and speeds recovery. Pain and soreness usually subside within two to four weeks. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication and the final liposuction results take shape over 2-3 months. The results are breathtaking.

Additional cosmetic surgery procedures that may enhance Dr. Henry's liposuction results at her San Francisco Bay Area centers are tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), breast reduction, breast lift, breast augmentation, thigh lift, or buttock lift.

Thigh-Buttock Lift

The thigh or buttock lift can produce fantastic results by creating tighter, more attractive contours. It is particularly useful for patients who have experienced a loss of skin elasticity or have dimpled skin in the thigh, hip and buttock areas.

An inner thigh lift procedure requires only short incisions extending from the anterior part of the thigh/groin crease around to the buttock crease. Performing an entire thigh or buttock lift requires much longer incisions that start in the buttock crease, and extend around the groin, up over the side of the abdomen, over the flank and across the back. Once the incisions are made, excess skin is lifted upward and removed. Dr. Henry is sensitive and meticulous when it comes to the placement of the resulting scars from such cosmetic surgery procedures. As a result, Dr. Henry will discuss a wide variety of thigh and buttock lift incision placements available to meet personal or clothing needs.

The thigh or buttock lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis unless otherwise advised by the surgeon. After the thigh or buttock lift procedure is complete, the patient is placed in a compression garment to reduce swelling and assist in the natural tightening of the skin. While initial discomfort associated with smaller thigh or buttock lifts is easily controlled with prescription pain medication, larger thigh or buttock lifts may initially require one or two nights of care in a skilled nursing facility or hospital. Bruising and swelling, the most common side effects of thigh and buttock lifts usually subside within a month; strenuous activities may generally be resumed within six weeks.

Additional cosmetic surgery procedures that may enhance thigh or buttock lift results at Dr. Henry's San Francisco Bay Area centers include liposuction (or liposculpture), breast enlargement, and tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).

Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, as performed at Dr. Henry's San Francisco Bay Area centers, is an excellent way to create a smoother, flatter abdomen, especially if the loose or sagging abdominal wall skin is resistant to diet and exercise. Dr. Henry offers several types of tummy tuck in the San Francisco Bay Area and will suggest several modified procedures to fit your individual needs.

During tummy tuck an incision is made across the lower abdomen and the skin is lifted upward. The belly button is saved by removing it from the skin, and then the excess abdominal skin is removed. A small opening is made in the position of the original navel and the belly button is replaced. Finally, the abdominal incision is sutured close. Mini- tummy tuck tightens the lower abdominal wall skin and requires the shortest incision. Modified tummy tuck addresses specific locations where just the muscle wall or abdominal skin requires repair. Standard tummy tuck tightens all of the abdominal wall skin and muscles. Extended tummy tuck tightens the abdomen and the flanks or sides, and requires the longest incision extending around the flanks onto the lower back.

For patient safety and comfort, tummy tuck at our San Francisco Bay Area centers is performed under general anesthesia either within the hospital or in an outpatient setting. Abdominoplasty can be one of the more uncomfortable plastic surgery procedures and usually requires more recovery time. Generally, one to three days of hospitalization, skilled nursing care, or assistance at home is indicated. Patients are encouraged to begin moving and walking regularly within one to two days of tummy tuck surgery. Light activity should become more comfortable within in 10-20 days of your cosmetic surgery procedure, but intense activities such as sports will not be comfortable for about six weeks.

Additional cosmetic surgery procedures that may enhance tummy tuck results at Dr. Henry's San Francisco Bay Area centers are liposuction, breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, or thigh lift.

Upper Arm Lift

Chin EnlargementAn upper arm lift is a perfect plastic surgery solution for eliminating unsightly, sagging skin on the upper arms caused by aging, genetics, or weight loss. This safe, popular cosmetic surgery procedure creates beautifully toned, shapely arms.

Upper arm lift procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. In order to remove excess skin, an incision is made on the inner arm that runs from near the top of the elbow into the armpit. Then, unwanted skin and fatty tissue are carefully removed to reveal slimmer, leaner arms. After upper arm lift surgery, the arms are either wrapped or placed in an elastic sleeve to reduce swelling. Healing usually occurs within 10-14 days. Sutures are usually removed within the first two to three weeks. Swelling and bruising gradually disappear over three to four weeks of having upper arm lift. All swelling subsides within three to six months. The scars fade in 6-24 months, depending on skin type and resiliency.

An additional cosmetic surgery procedure that may enhance upper arm lift results is liposuction of the upper arm or armpits (axillae).

POST WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY

For the obese, weight loss is the best way to lower the risk of dangerous health problems such as diabetes and heart disease, and bariatric surgery is an effective weight loss strategy for those who have trouble losing weight through diet and exercise. However, those who lose significant weight are often left with excess skin and tissue that may be both uncomfortable and unsightly. For many of these individuals, an integrated body contouring treatment incorporating liposuction, abdominoplasty, arm lift, and/or other body lift procedures may be the solution. With multiple locations around Sacramento, Marin County, and San Francisco, Dr. Kimberly Henry is conveniently located for body contouring patients throughout Northern California.

Chin EnlargementBody Lift

The total body lift, including arm, thigh, and buttock lift procedures, is a way for post-bariatric body contouring patients to approach uncomfortable excess skin and tissue in many different areas of the body simultaneously. Body lift surgery also frequently incorporates liposuction to remove any remaining fat. Rather than undergoing several individual procedures, which require separate surgical appointments and recovery periods.

that could stretch over months or years, post-bariatric body contouring patients can choose to undergo one comprehensive procedure, with one unified recovery period, and then focus on enjoying life with a beautiful new body shape as soon as possible. For more information on the body lift and body contouring, please contact Dr. Henry's practices in Greenbrae, Davis, and Petaluma.

Arm Lift

After losing weight and becoming healthier, people may find that they are left with undesirable and uncomfortable swinging folds of skin on the upper arms. These folds may even be a source of self-esteem problems for those who are dissatisfied after working so hard to lose weight. For these individuals, Dr. Henry recommends an upper arm lift as part of a complete body contouring procedure. After recovering from surgery, patients will be able to wear the clothes they want and feel confident when lifting their arms in public.

When performing upper arm lift surgery, Dr. Henry makes an incision along the underside of the arm where it will be least visible. The length and shape of this incision varies from patient to patient depending on how much skin must be removed. Next, Dr. Henry will remove excess skin, tissue, and fat. Finally, she will reposition the skin and close the incision, bandaging the arm for protection.

Body contouring patients choosing an arm lift at Dr. Henry's Sacramento and Marin County offices should expect some swelling in the arms for a few days after surgery. It takes most patients several weeks to recover completely from an arm lift, but it is usually safe to return to work after about a week and most other activities after three weeks.

Thigh and Buttock Lift

After significant weight loss, it is common for the thighs and buttocks to sag, creating flaps of loose skin. For this reason, many San Francisco-area body contouring patients also choose thigh and buttock lift surgery to lift and remove excess skin, making the legs and buttocks firmer, better-defined and more appealing to the eye. The location and size of the incision varies depending on the individual, but Dr. Henry will always endeavor to place incisions as discreetly as possible so patients can wear the clothes they want without visible scarring.

It may take several weeks to make a full recovery, during which time patients will need to closely follow Dr. Henry's post-operative instructions. After a successful body lift at Dr. Henry's offices, serving Marin County and the entire San Francisco area, body contouring patients will be able to wear shorts and bathing suits, showing off firmer, more attractive buttocks and thighs.

Abdominoplasty

Frequently, body lift patients who choose Dr. Henry in Marin County are troubled by excess skin and fat on the abdomen. Because this is an area where the body often stores fat, extra abdominal skin may be particularly troublesome after weight loss.

Abdominoplasty (also called the tummy tuck) allows Dr. Henry to remove this extra tissue, sculpting a flatter, better-defined abdomen that feels more comfortable and looks more attractive. Incisions for abdominoplasty are hidden as discreetly as possible below the bathing suit line, hidden from sight.

It generally takes several weeks for abdominoplasty patients to fully recover; however, recovery time may vary depending on how much skin is removed. Most patients are able to return to work and light exercise after one or two weeks.
